Achernar
The brightest star in Eridanus and the ninth brightest in the night sky, ~140 light-years away. A hot B6 main-sequence star spinning near its breakup velocity (~250 km/s), which makes it the most flattened star ever directly imaged: its equatorial radius is roughly 35% larger than its polar one. The name is Arabic for "end of the river".
