Crab Nebula

The expanding remnant of supernova SN 1054, recorded by Chinese astronomers as a "guest star" visible in daylight. About 6500 light-years away in Taurus, it is powered by the Crab Pulsar — a ~33 ms-period neutron star at its center. M1 in Charles Messier's catalog.
