The nearest large spiral galaxy to the Milky Way, ~2.5 million light-years away. About a trillion stars and a diameter of ~150,000 light-years. On a collision course with the Milky Way, with a merger expected in ~4-5 Gyr. Visible to the naked eye in dark skies.
