Orion Nebula

M42 — the closest large star-forming region to Earth at ~1300 light-years, in the sword of Orion. Visible to the naked eye, illuminated by the young Trapezium cluster at its heart. A nursery for hundreds of protostars and a benchmark for studies of star and planet formation.
