Red Supergiant

A massive star in a late evolutionary stage, expanded to enormous size and cooled to a reddish color. Sizes of hundreds to over a thousand solar radii — placed at the Sun, the largest would engulf Jupiter. Betelgeuse and Antares are the best-known examples. They end their lives as Type II supernovae.
