Sirius

The brightest star in the night sky, 8.6 light-years from Earth. A binary system: a hot main-sequence A1V primary (Sirius A) and a faint white dwarf companion (Sirius B). Its heliacal rising marked the flooding of the Nile in ancient Egypt.
