Wolf Rayet Star

An extremely hot, massive star in a late evolutionary stage, blasting off its outer layers via a powerful stellar wind that can shed up to a solar mass per 100,000 years. Surface temperatures of 30,000–200,000 K reveal the helium- and nitrogen-rich layers beneath the hydrogen envelope. Likely progenitors of Type Ib/Ic supernovae.
